Village Music Circles™ Basic Facilitator Training will empower you to build a rhythm community while exploring the foundational elements of drum circle facilitation.

Learn powerful facilitation techniques and develop skills while gaining the confidence to successfully lead a rhythm event for a variety of diverse populations.

Packed with information and hands-on experience, both beginning and experienced facilitators will have plenty of opportunities for practicing new skills in a safe, supportive environment.

Program Content

In 20+ hours of training, participants will have extensive practice opportunities in the facilitation techniques and the skills needed to lead a drum circle event for a variety of populations.

Group instruction and discussions combine with small group activities using movement, voice, musical instruments, and improvisational rhythm games. Critique and feedback are an important part of the learning process.

Opportunities for networking with other facilitators of many cultures, backgrounds, and experience levels provides stimulation and inspiration to developing facilitators.

The Basic Facilitators’ Playshop is a high-powered, dynamic experience. Participants must commit to the entire weekend and be ready to work hard and learn a lot — while having loads of fun doing so.

Who developed this training?

Village Music Circles utilizes the Drum Circle Facilitation techniques developed by it’s founder, Arthur Hull. Arthur has dedicated his life to making the joy of rhythm accessible to people everywhere. Through his trainings, books, dvds, and music, Arthur strives to bring people a direct experience of the joy of rhythm; empowering others to carry the positive impact of community building through rhythm forward into their own lives and community.

Arthur has sparked the world-wide movement of drum circle facilitation, creating a new and internationally recognized profession of the Drum Circle Facilitator. Arthur’s goal is to help this growing community develop, and build a strong platform from which values-based professionalism can emerge.

Who will be leading this training?

Village Music Circles Certified Global Trainer, Jeni Swerdlow, MA-ATR is a dynamic and engaging facilitator, presenter and performer with a passion for drumming and a mission to build connections through rhythm. Founding DRUMMM Rhythmic Events in 2000, her popular drum circles and interactive rhythm events engage 10,000 participants a year in person and online in the U.S. and globally.

Jeni is a Registered Art Therapist (ATR), REMO-Endorsed Drum Circle Facilitator, and trained HealthRHYTHMS and Rhythm2Recovery Facilitator. She is best known for her innovative strategies and playful attitude that invite participants to experience the power of being together in rhythm.

Schedule Outline

Thursday May 12 – 9-9:30am Registration – 9:30am-1:30pm Morning Session – 1:30-2:30pm Lunch – 2:30-6pm Afternoon Session

Friday May 13 – 9-9:30am Arrival – 9:30am-1:30pm Morning Session – 1:30-2:30pm Lunch – 2:30-6pm Afternoon Session – 6-8pm Dinner – 8-9:30pm “Late Night” Jam

Saturday May 14 – 10:00 am Arrival – 10:15am-1:30pm Morning Session – 1:30-2:30pm Lunch – 2:30-3:30pm Planning + Set-up set up for Community Drum Circle – 3:30 to 5:00pm Community Drum Circle – 5-6pm Clean-up – 6-8pm Optional Group Dinner

The training is located in the town of Napa in Northern California. Famous for its wineries and beautiful surroundings, Napa is a popular destination spot for tourists from around the world. Consider adding a few days before or after the training to take in the local sights and flavors of the region.

Covid Safety

We are looking forward to gathering in rhythm and community, and are committed to helping us all stay well and healthy. The large space provides ample room for physical distancing.

We will be following federal and state safety guidelines in place at the time of the training. If you are feeling unwell or have been exposed to someone with Covid play stay home.

Cancellations and Refund Policy

Given the current pandemic, we will give full refunds up to the beginning of the training for Covid related cancellations. In the event that the training itself is cancelled, we will provide a full refund to everyone registered.
